Mitigating clinician and community concerns about children's flatfeet, intoed gait, or knock-knees

چکیده
Background Foot and lower limb postures are a common parental concern, and present frequently to a range of clinicians. Referral of children with flatfeet, intoed gait, or knockknees that is within normal developmental limits has been reported as approximating 40%. This represents a substantial and unnecessary cost to any health care system. The dilemma for caring clinicians is that each of these common presentations can be frankly pathological, so erring on the side of caution is understandable.

متن کاملThe Effects on Muscle Activation of Flatfoot during Gait According to the Velocity on an Ascending Slope
[Purpose] This study determined the difference between flatfeet and normal feet in humans on an ascending slope using electromyography (EMG). [Subjects] This study was conducted on 30 adults having normal feet (n=15) and flatfeet (n=15), all of whom were 21 to 30 years old. [Methods] A treadmill (AC5000M, SCIFIT,) was used to analyze kinematic features during gait. These features were analyzed ...
متن کاملThe relationship between paediatric foot posture and body mass index: do heavier children really have flatter feet?

The purpose of this study was to further explore the relationship between children's foot posture and body mass, utilizing the foot posture index in a large study population, as opposed to the foot...
متن کاملBaropodometry and stereophotogrammetry for classifying flatfoot severity: dynamic angles and footprint indexes
Background Static radiographic angles and other clinical qualitative observations are used traditionally for classifying flatfeet. Correlation of foot shape measurements, taken from pressure footprints under dynamic conditions, with radiographic angles was preliminarily investigated in young flatfeet [1]. The aim of this study is to assess the sensitivity and specificity of existing or purposel...
